LAYBACK CINEMA @ BOMBIES

WEDNESDAY 16 JULY 7PM

We’re partnering with Surfers for Climate for a film night & a panel conversation with special guests. We’ll be screening two surf shorts: Granny Grommets & The Seed.

The Granny Grommets

A grommet, in surf lexicon, stands for a surfing newbie, usually a younger person. The Granny Grommets, however, are claiming the term for themselves, ignoring the looming threats of sharks and concerns of their worried offspring, to brace the waves of Albany – bodyboards in tow.

The Granny Grommets, a nearly 90 strong group of women, come from all walks of life and with all the life experiences that an older person brings with them, to bodyboard every Friday morning. This film ultimately reflects on the healing and transformative power community and friendship provide for us later in life.

The Seed

An original short film by Surfers for Climate that showcases the innovative work of shaper Gary McNeill and surfer Dave Rastovich. Over the course of seven years, these two pioneers dedicated themselves to revolutionising surfboard construction, aiming to enhance durability and reduce environmental impact without sacrificing performance.
