CHATS WITH THE VELVET CLUB
We chatted to The Velvet Club before their Homegrown gig at Harbord on Friday 30 August. The Indie-rock band have built a reputation for their sweaty, high energy live show. The band has been steadily climbing the charts through regular nation-wide touring since 2022, taking their show from backyards to festival stages across the country.

1. TELL US MORE ABOUT WHY YOU’RE EXCITED TO BE PLAYING AT HARBORD HOTEL
We’ve never played a show or been to this part of Sydney before so we’re very keen to see the surrounds in hopefully some sun!
2. NAME YOUR TOP 3 FAVOURITE AUSSIE ARTISTS RIGHT NOW?
The Belair Lip Bombs, Radio Free Alice & Ra Ra Viper.
3. SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT THE AUSSIE MUSIC INDUSTRY?
I don’t know if people know this but it’s a super small scene and a really close community! Everyone really supports each other.
4. WHERE DO YOU GO TO FIND/SEEK INSPIRATION?
Definitely from our peers and mates in other bands in the scene. It’s always really inspiring to see them succeeding and creating great music.

6. HIGH ROTATION – WHAT ALBUM ARE YOU VIBING RIGHT NOW?
I’ve been loving the Full Flower Moon band record & Lush Life by The Belair Lip Bombs!
7. WARM UP ROUTINE – TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT HOW YOU LIKE TO WARM UP BEFORE A GIG.
Honestly we don’t really have a routine, we kind of just hang around and wait for the show to start. I guess we just try not to annoy each other too much and not drink too much while we wait!
8. DRINK OF CHOICE – WHAT DRINK IS YOUR GO-TO WHEN YOU GO OUT?
Pretty predictable but a beer is definitely the go to. Also been loving Tequila lately.
9. TRAVEL LIST – WHERE DO YOU WANT TO TRAVEL TO NEXT AND WHY?
I would love to play shows in Japan one day, that’s definitely a dream of mine, I have been there once and absolutely loved it so hopefully music takes us there one day!
