CHATS WITH THUNDER FOX
We chatted to Thunder Fox before their Homegrown gig at Harbord on Friday 25 October. The Aussie band, hailing from the Northern Beaches, have produced two full albums in the short span of a few years, amassing over 1,000,000 Spotify streams. The five-piece has performed on some of Australia’s most prestigious festival stages alongside the likes of Matt Corby, Ocean Alley, The Temper Trap, M.I.A., The Kooksand a myriad of other world leading acts.

1. TELL US MORE ABOUT WHY YOU’RE EXCITED TO BE PLAYING AT HARBORD HOTEL
Most of us grew up on the Northern Beaches so we’re always stoked to play a home show and see some familiar faces.
2. NAME YOUR TOP 3 FAVOURITE AUSSIE ARTISTS RIGHT NOW?
– Tropical F*ck Storm
– Ruby Jackson
– Battlesnake
3. SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT THE AUSSIE MUSIC INDUSTRY?
The average person may not know how difficult it can be to make a living in the Aussie music scene. Despite all the incredible talent and diversity available, artists are having difficulty being seen in an industry that is increasingly monopolised by corporations and underfunded. It’s likely your favourite Aussie artist needs a day job to make ends meet!
4. WHERE DO YOU GO TO FIND/SEEK INSPIRATION?
In my experience, inspiration can’t be sought out, it’ll show up in the throes of life events both familiar and otherwise. If you want to write an authentic sad song, you’ll need to have been deeply, irrevocably sad at one point or another and vice versa for every piece of art you hope to make.

6. HIGH ROTATION – WHAT ALBUM ARE YOU VIBING RIGHT NOW?
I’m really loving an album called There is a Well by Shallowater.
7. WARM UP ROUTINE – TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT HOW YOU LIKE TO WARM UP BEFORE A GIG.
Lately we’ve all been getting together backstage a few minutes before we go out to run some vocal warmups which is a great way to loosen up and laugh at each other before we get silly in front of a crowd.
8. DRINK OF CHOICE – WHAT DRINK IS YOUR GO-TO WHEN YOU GO OUT?
I’ve recently jumped on the sober bandwagon after spending my entire twenties funding the beverage industry. I do like a water or perhaps a Heaps Normal if I’m feeling spicy.
9. TRAVEL LIST – WHERE DO YOU WANT TO TRAVEL TO NEXT AND WHY?
We’re all looking forward to heading back to Germany in 2025. We had an amazing tour over there in 2023. We met so many incredible people and were blown away with their love of live music. The hospitality for artists is unbeatable, too.
