PEP OFF FOR GOOD!
After seven long years of fierce community opposition, the controversial PEP 11 gas drilling project has finally been scrapped – for good.
The Petroleum Exploration Permit 11 (PEP 11) is the licence permit to drill for offshore gas between Newcastle and Manly.
Surfrider’s Northern Beaches branch has been fighting this permit since 2018, to help preserve the quality of our waters. Australia’s oceans and waves are vital recreational, economic and ecological treasures that will be inevitably harmed by the industrialisation of our coastline. The most impending threat to our coastline is climate change, specifically the extraction and burning of fossil fuels. This is no time to start gas mining off the NSW coast.
After much back and forth, and continuous pressure applied by numerous community organisations and Surfrider, the government has finally quashed the licence application
